The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, usually referred to as The Merck Manual, was originally produced for physicians and pharmacists in 1899.  In 1997 The Merck Manual of Medical Information – Home Edition was published.  The editors translated the complex medical information in The Merck Manual into plain language, producing a book meant for all those interested in medical care who did not have a medial degree.  It is one of the developed world's best known and most widely-used medical reference books, with over 2 million copies having been sold.
